Newsletters. Everyone knows what they are. Right?
Well basically a newsletter is a printed or electronic document full of actives that a business is doing. It is sent out to all the stakeholders and audience of the organization.
Just about every organization does a newsletter. Whether that be daily, weekly, monthly or even yearly. Newsletters are super important though, it could potentially be the only information that a customer could get about that organization. You must make your newsletters pretty great then!
I have already mentioned in past blogs how newsletters and their design is important, well the insides of the newsletters are just as important. It is not always the delivery, but the message. And the message is the word copy and photos.
Organization is super important, you want to make sure each photo and copy easily go together and flow well. If the reader is distracted too bad with certain parts of the newsletter it can be detrimental, therefore keep it short and concise.
Some newsletters can be entertaining, informational, educational, for fun and even just a needed press release to keep in contact with the audience. Be sure to find your WHY for creating the newsletter and this will help you keep on track when designing.
To have your audience hear you… write to them! Be sure to target your audience and design for them. Learn your audience and the members of it so you can speak well to them. It is okay to spend a bit of time to find your audience and your voice that they listen to. Don’t skip this step… it is very important!
Be sure to have your photos match your articles! We do not want your readers to be jumping around on the pages… keep everything together and concise!
Be aware of spacing, alignment and contrast. All are very important to a newsletter, be sure to attack these head on.
Newsletters are different for every organization. Below are a couple different ideas for designs. I also suggest jumping on Pinterest and finding inspiration there. Pinterest does a great job of keeping each 'mood' together in pins. As an organization, be sure each newsletter can match a 'mood' and sticks with it. This will create a cohesive feel which you want!
